The United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Education (UNESCO) located at Place de Fontenoy Paris, will hosting the global edition of the Africa Fashion Reception, Paris on the 29th October, 2016. The African edition took place earlier last month during the 13th-15th of September, at the African Union in its headquarters in Addis Ababa. The African Fashion Business Summit and exhibitions by participating countries were among the activities lined up during the past event. The Africa Fashion Reception (AFR) is considered to be a Pan African initiative. The global edition set to take place later this month will thus bring together fashion designers, dignitaries, Ambassadors and media from over 30 African countries, to celebrate the cultural diversity Africa brings to the artistic fashion discipline, with the theme being ‘Africa is the New Inspiration of Global Fashion’. Africa Fashion Reception, organised by Legendary Gold Limited, UNESCO, Atunda Entertainment and African Union Commission, aims to create trade partnerships amongst members of the fashion industry throughout Africa. The event was encouraged due to a partnership between Africa Fashion Reception and UNESCO. The Africa Fashion Reception aims at achieving the following objectives using the continent’s fashion industry;
• To build networks by encouraging free trade and partnerships among fashion practitioners throughout Africa
• To get the world focused on Africa’s rich fashion industry, which can be used for the social economic growth of the continent’s garment/textile industry.
• To use the fashion market as a tool to fight poverty in Africa by creating wealth through the empowerment of fashion enthusiasts in various fashion sectors through training and entrepreneurship, thereby supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063.
• To bring about self-reliance as this initiative will create millions of jobs across the continent for Tailors, Creative Directors, Textile designers, Models, Cutters, Pressers, Fashion Photographers & Writers, Hair Stylists, Make-up Artists etc
CEO of Africa Fashion Reception, Lexy Mojo-Eyes claims ‘This platform has been specially created for positive change. The AFR is not just an event. It is a movement’
