Black Panther isn’t even out yet and it’s already breaking records. According to ticket retailer Fandango, the film sold the most pre-sale tickets than any other Marvel movie, so it’s clear that folks are already obsessed. Monday night, the premiere for the highly-anticipated flick went down in Los Angeles, and our collective jaws are on the floor, still trying to figure out what good we’ve done to be blessed with all this beauty. Stars like Lupita Nyong’o, Issa Rae, and Angela Bassett, and more came out to serve some seriously stunning looks. Scroll down to see some of the best of the evening.
Lupita Nyong’o: Hair to the Heavens
Lupita donned the toppiest of top knots, done by none other than Vernon François. All other top knots can go home now. Smoky eyes and a berry lip tied the look together.
Angela Bassett: Disco Queen
Hairstylist Kim Kimble gave the actress some serious texture: loose waves brushed out to create this Studio 54-esque volume. Just add some sharp brows, smoky eyes, and a matte nude lip for a look fit for a queen.
Janelle Monáe: Side Bangs
Hairstylist Nikki Nelms styled the singer’s pixie with side-swept bangs, the perfect complement to her embroidered kufi. “I kept it soft and simple to keep the attention on the regality of her outfit,” says Nelms. “I focused on framing her face to accentuate the look.” Red lips, fluffy lashes, and a neutral eye look with just a little bit of purple eye shadow run across the lower lash line were the perfect pairing for her beaded choker.
Connie Chiume: The Crown
The South African actress looked like royalty in her headpiece. The bold crimson shade perfectly complements her ensemble, and the combination of flushed cheeks and metallic eye makeup further pulls the look together.
Sydelle Noel: Coming to Wakanda
OK, is this hairstyle is totally giving us Imani Izzi from Coming to America vibes — except Noel is more Wakanda–bound. This look, created by Vernon François, is equal parts African princess, superhero, and the fly girl whose hair and makeup you always want to copy.
